Abhimanyu Puranik awesome at 1st Saakar Foundation Rapid Rating Open 2026
GM Abhimanyu Puranik scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Saakar Foundation Rapid Rating Open 2026.
Abhimanyu’s sixth rating tournament triumph of the year
The top seed of the tournament and reigning National Blitz 2026 champion, GM Abhimanyu Puranik was the sole leader at 7.5/8, going into the final round. IM Akshay Borgaonkar and CM Divith Reddy Adulla were trailing by a half point at 7/8 each. Akshay drew against Abhimanyu, the former finished second and the latter became a clear champion. FM Kaivalya Sandip Nagare defeated Divith to finish third 7.5/9.
The total prize fund was ₹400000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹65000 and ₹41000 along with a trophy each.

A total of 254 players including a GM, six IMs and two WIMs took part from various parts of India, two from Iceland and one from the USA. The one-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Saakar Foundation at Gulmohar Banquets, Abhiruchi Mall in Pune, Maharashtra on 4th October 2026. The time control of the tournament was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
