Ratnakaran prevails at 1st Christ School CISCE Rapid Rating Open 2026

IM Ratnakaran K, IM Chakravarthi Reddy M, IM Muthaiah Al, Sailesh R, Ajjesh J R and Atharva Madkar scored 8/9 each at 1st Christ School CISCE Rapid Rating Open 2026. Ratnakaran won the tournament on tie-breaks. The remaining five were placed second to sixth place respectively. The total prize fund was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each.

Ratnakaran’s first tournament triumph of the year

IM Ratnakaran K made a perfect start by winning eight games in-a-row. Nine players were trailing by a full point at 7/8 each. Ratnakaran lost the final round game against IM Chakravarthi Reddy M, still that did not affect his first place finish as he had better tie-breaks scores. Chakravarthi secured second place. CM Sudarshan Bhat lost to IM Muthaiah Al who finished third.

A total of 457 players including five IMs took part from various parts of the country, one from Australia and Nepal, and four from the USA. The one-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by and at Christ School CICSE in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 14th March 2026. The time control of the tournament was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
