Mitrabha Guha wins Festival Caissa Chalice Rapid Rating Open 2026

GM Mitrabha Guha and GM Adhiban Baskaran scored 7.5/9 each at Festival Caissa Chalice Rapid Rating Open 2026. Mitrabha remained undefeated and became champion on tie-breaks, Adhiban finished second. GM Sankalp Gupta, GM Pranav Anand, GM Diptayan Ghosh, IM Mayank Chakraborty and IM Subhayan Kundu scored 7/9 each. They were placed third to seventh respectively. The total prize fund was ₹1000000. The top three prizes were ₹150000, ₹125000 and ₹100000 along with a trophy each. This was Mitrabha’s third overall, second rating tournament triumph in 2026.

Mitrabha’s third consecutive triumph at the festival

This was the third event of the Festival Caissa Grand Prix series. The tournament was already a success due to an enormous participation of GMs, IMs, WGMs and WIMs – 51 in total. It is not everyday one get to see so many titled and top players of the country take part in a non-GM tournament. It might be difficult to top this series for the rest of year in any rating open tournaments in India.

GM Mitrabha Guha was the sole leader 7/8, going into the last round. Five players – GM Narayanan S L, GM Diptayan Ghosh, GM Sankalp Gupta, IM Mayank Chakraborty and GM Adhiban Baskaran were trailing by a half point at 6.5/8 each. Mitrabha drew against Diptayan to become the champion. Narayanan lost to Adhiban and the latter finished second. Mayank drew against Sankalp who claimed third place. This was the third consecutive tournament triumph for Mitrabha at this festival.

A total of 181 players including 12 GMs, 33 IMs, 3 WGMs and 3 WIMs took part from all over the country, one from Kenya and USA each. The one-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Innovators Chess Academy at Silicon City Academy of Secondary Education in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 25th January 2026. The time control of the tournament was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
