National Sub-Junior Under-15 2026: Shaunak stuns Jval, Parambrata outplays Madhvendra, Prishita gains sole lead

Shaunak Badole swerved IM Jval Saurin Patel in the seventh round of 51st National Sub-Junior Open 2026. WIM Prishita Gupta got the better of WFM Shanmathi Sree S at 42nd National Sub-Junior Girls.

Open: Christy, Shaunak, Parambrata and Madhesh in a four-way lead

The top two seeds in the Open section – IM Jval Saurin Patel (GUJ) and FM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (MP) suffered a loss each in Round 7. Christy George (KER), Shaunak Badole (MAH), Parambrata Sarkar (WB) and Madhesh Kumar S (PUD) are the four players at 6.5/7 each.

WFM Shanmathi Sree S (TN) crumbled against the top seed of the Girls event, WIM Prishita Gupta (DEL). Prishita is now the sole leader at 6.5/7.

IM Jval Saurin Patel (GUJ, 2421) needed to play on his strength and pushed more pawns forward 37…e5 instead of 37…f4? attempting to worsen Shaunak Badole’s (MAH, 2100) pawn structure. 38.Kf1 Kg6 39.Ke2 Kf5 40.Kd3 Be5 41.Kc2 fxg3 42.hxg3 h5 43.Rg1 Bd4 44.Rg2 e5 45.g4+ Kf4 46.gxh5

Position after 46.gxh5

46…f5 47.h6 e4 would have kept the game going. Instead, 46…Kxf3?? 47.Rd2 gave White a decisive advantage and he went on to win the game.

Madhvendra – Parambrata

Position after 17.g4??

Second seeded, FM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (MP, 2389) got into a worse position out of the opening against Parambrata Sarkar (WB, 2192). 17.g4?? did not help White’s cause. 17…Bxb1 18.Rxb1 a6 19.Na3 Ne4 not only White is losing a pawn but his position slowly starts to crumble. 20.Rb2 Nxc3 and Black went on to convert his advantage into a win.
