Aaryan Varshney perfect at 1st Rival of Anga Rapid Rating Open 2026
GM Aaryan Varshney scored a perfect 9/9 to win 1st Rival of Anga Rapid Rating Open 2026.
Aaryan’s seventh overall, fifth rating tournament triumph of the year
The top seed of the event, GM Aaryan Varshney made a perfect start by winning eight games in-a-row. WFM Sneha Halder was trailing by a half point at 7.5/8. Sneha lost to Aaryan in the final round, the latter became the champion and the former second. Aditya Sur defeated FM Kumar Gaurav to finish third. Sneha is the only sole female player to make a top ten finish.
The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each.

GM Aaryan Varshney won the tournament with a 100% score 9/9, finished 1.5 points ahead of the rest and gained 14.6 Elo rating points

A total of 351 players including a GM and an IM took part from various parts of the country and ten from Nepal. The two-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Bhagalpur District Chess Association at Indoor Stadium in Bhagalpur, Bihar on 8th and 9th August 2026. The time control of the tournament was 25 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
