IM Kushagra Mohan scored a perfect 9/9 to win 23rd Late Bharatbai Halkude Memorial Rapid Rating Open at LBHM Chess Festival 2026.

Kushagra’s fourth overall, third rating tournament triumph of the year

IM Kushagra Mohan and IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete made a perfect start by winning eight games in-a-row. IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh was the sole pursuer at 7.5/8. Sammed lost to his coleader Kushagra and the latter became the champion. Nubairshah defeated CM Vedant Rupeshbhai Varasada to finish second. CM Bhavesh Mahajan won against Rahul N Kamath to claim third place. This was Kushagra’s third podium finish and second triumph in the festival after winning the Classical Rating Open on the previous day same day.

The total prize fund of the festival was ₹3222111, ₹402000 for Rapid Rating Open. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹25000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy and medal each.

A total of 643 players including a GM and eight IMs took part from various parts of the country, one from Germany and three from the USA. The one-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Nagnath Halkude at Dhruv Global School in Pune, Maharashtra on 23rd May 2026. The time control of the tournament was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
