Ashutosh Banerjee scored 8.5/10 to win 4th Gujarat GM Category B Below 2000 Rating 2026.
Ashutosh’s first rating tournament triumph of the year
Shreyas Ghadi, Rohit S, Ashutosh Banerjee, Dhyaan Patel and Vivek Sharma were the five leaders at 7.5/9 each, heading into the final round. Ashutosh defeated Rohit to become the champion. Vivek won against Dhyaan to secure second place. Shreyas scored full point versus Karan R Trivedi to finish third.
The total cash prize fund was ₹5000000, ₹1500000 in Category B (<2000). The top three prizes were ₹125000, ₹100000 and ₹80000 along with a trophy each.

Ashutosh Banerjee scored 8.5/10, won the tournament on tie-breaks and increased his Elo rating by 17.8 points

A total of 313 players took part from various parts of India, one from Canada and Cyprus each. The four-day ten-round Category B (<2000) Rating tournament was organized by Gujarat State Chess Association at Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad, Gujarat from 1st to 4th June 2026. The time control of the tournament was 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
