Sergey Fedorchuk wins 30th Jean-Claude Loubatière 2026, Padmini Rout second
GM Sergey A Fedorchuk (UKR) scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win 30th Jean-Claude Loubatière Open A (>2100) 2026. IM Padmini Rout scored 6.5/9, remained undefeated and finished second.
Three Indians in top ten
It is not everyday a woman makes a podium finish in an Open tournament, that also ahead of five GMs in an above 2100 event. IM Padmini Rout defeated two GMs – Yuri Solodovnichenko (UKR) and Mahel Boyer (FRA), drew with the eventual champion, GM Sergey A Fedorchuk (UKR) in the final round to finish second with a 2536 performance. It goes without saying Padmini’s performance in this tournament was incredible as she faced three out of the six participating GMs, defeated two and drew against one. She just reminded everyone why she is a five-time National Women champion.
Apart from Padmini, GM Jean-Marc Degraeve (FRA) and IM Pelo Duboue (FRA) scored 6.5/9. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. IM Ameya Audi and FM Md. Reyan scored 6/9 each. They were placed fifth and sixth respectively accordig to tie-breaks.
The total participation was 149 – 52 in Open A (>2100), 62 in Open B (1650-2200) and 35 in Open C (≤1700).
The total prize fund was €12000. The top three prizes were €2200, €1600 and €1100 each.

A total of 52 players including 6 GMs, 10 IMs took part from 16 countries across the world in Open A (>2200). The eight-day nine-round Rating tournament was organized by Echecs Club Montpellier at Hôtel de Ville de Montpellier in Montpellier, France from 5th to 12th July 2026. The time control of the tournament was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
