Aniket Ranjan won Unite Nepal Through Chess Below 1800 Rapid Rating 2082 with a perfect score 9/9. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. Ranjit Rai (NEP) and Asha Narayan Lawat (NEP) scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was NRs 125000. The top three prizes were NRs 21000, 15000 and 10000 along with a trophy each.

Aniket’s first tournament triumph of the year

Aniket Ranjan made a blazing start by winning eight games in-a-row and gain a full point lead heading into the last round. Six players – Sajal Neupane (NEP), Ganesh Bahadur Thapa (NEP), Binish Kumar Sharma, Ranjit Rai (NEP), Kashiv Karki (NEP) and Asha Narayan Lawat (NEP) were trailing at 7/8 each. Although a draw would have sufficed for Aniket to become a clear champion, he went for the maximum against Ganesh Bahadur to win the tournament with a 100% score. Ranjit defeated Binish to finish second. Asha Narayan won against Sajal to claim third place.

Aniket Ranjan scored a perfect 9/9, finished a full point ahead of the rest and gained 123.6 Elo rating points

A total of 240 players took part from various parts of Nepal and six from India. The two-day nine-round Below 1800 Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Dr. Mohan Singh Pradhan, Sanuraj Bajracharya and IA Gyanendra Khaiju at Thapathali Park Chess Club in Kathmandu, Nepal on 30th and 31st January 2026. The time control of the tournament was 10 minutes + 10 seconds increment.
