Vignesh Advaith Vemula wins Gold, Viresh Sharnarthi Silver and V S Nandish Bronze at Asian Junior Blitz Open 2026
IM Vignesh Advaith Vemula, FM Viresh Sharnarthi and FM V S Nandish scored 6/7 each at Asian Junior Blitz Open 2026. They won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively according to tie-breaks.
Top three score 6/7, Vignesh’s first rating tournament triumph of the year
FM Imangali Akhilbay (KAZ) and FM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma were coleaders at 5.5/6 each, heading into the last round. The eventual medalists – IM Vignesh Advaith Vemula, FM Viresh Sharnarth and FM V S Nandish were trailing by a half point at 5/6 each. Vignesh defeated FM Amanmuhammet Hommadov (TKM) to clinch Gold. Madhvendra lost to Viresh and the latter secured Silver. Nandish won against Imangali to claim Bronze. Among the medalists, only Nandish remained undefeated. This is Vignesh’s first rating tournament triumph of the year.

A total of 81 players including a GM and five IMs took part from eight countries across Asia. The one-day seven-round Blitz Rating Open tournament was organized by Maharashtra Chess Association at ITC Maratha in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 17th August 2026. The time control of the tournament was 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment.
