Pratitee Bordoloi Golden at Asian Junior Girls 2026, Bronze for Nivedita V C
WFM Pratitee Bordoloi scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to clinch Gold at Asian Junior Girls 2026. WFM Mariya Kholyavko secured Silver 7/9. WFM Nivedita V C claimed Bronze 6.5/9.
Pratitee becomes a WIM, scores a WGM-norm, WIM-norm for Nivedita
The top seed of the event, WFM Pratitee Bordoloi was the sole leader 7/8, heading into the final round. Four players – Shivamshika G, WCM Sravyasree Bheemarasetty, WFM Mariya Kholyavko (KAZ) and WCM Leyla Shohradova (TKM) were trailing by a full point at 6/8 each. Pratitee needed just a draw to become a clear champion and that’s what she did against Sravyasree. Pratitee not only clinched Gold but also became India’s latest Woman International Master and also scored a WGM-norm for the same. Leyla lost to Mariya who secured Silver. Pranavasri S lost to WFM Nivedita V C and the latter claimed Bronze. Nivedita also earned a WIM-norm.
Pratitee winning the Gold convincingly at the age of only 13 years is certainly a remarkable performance. She also became India’s latest Woman International Master and earned a WGM-norm. A couple of months ago, she was the sole Indian to claim a medal at World Youth Under-18 Girls. Before that, she became National Under-17 Girls champion. So, her winning Gold at Asian Junior Girls is not surprising as she is really that good and having a great 2026. It goes without saying that she is definitely a talent to watch out for in the years to come.

WFM Pratitee Bordoloi (2252) outplayed her opponent, WIM Prishita Gupta (2112) positionally after 37…f5+ 38.Ke3 Nxa3 39.bxa3 fxg4 40.Rg2 h5 41.h3 g5 42.hxg4 gxf4+ 43.Kf3 h4 44.Be1 Rxd4 and White’s position fell apart in a hurry. This win increased Pratitee’s sole lead by a full point and helped her to get that much close to a Gold, WIM title and a WGM-norm.

A total of 66 players including a WIM took part from seven countries across Asia. The seven-day nine-round Rating Girls tournament was organized by Maharashtra Chess Association at ITC Maratha in Mumbai, Maharashtra from 19th and 25th August 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
