Abhimanyu Mishra triumphs at 5th Menorca Open 2026, Leon Luke Mendonca second

GM Abhimanyu Mishra (USA), GM Leon Luke Mendonca, GM Di Li (CHN) and GM Tomas Sosa (ARG) scored 7.5/9 each at Menorca Open A (>1850) 2026. Abhimanyu won the tournament on tie-breaks, Leon was place second, Di and Tomas third and fourth respectively. The total prize fund was more than 26000 + 10000 in Chessable courses. The top three prizes were 6000, 4000 and 2500 along with a trophy each respectively.

The fifth edition of Menorca Open 2026 witnessed a total participation of 762 – 6 in Closed Masters, 388 in Open A (>1850), 164 in Open B (<2000) and 204 in Blitz. GM Karthik Venkataraman scored 7.5/9 to finish third in Blitz. FM Jose Vicente Jimenez Martinez (ESP) became the champion 8/9. 9-year-old Aarit Kapil scored his maiden IM-norm.

9-year-old FM Aarit Kapil (2304) defeated former World Junior champion – GM Nogerbek Kazybek (KAZ), IM Ansat Aldiyar (KAZ), drew against GM Bryce Tiglon (USA), IM Faustino Oro (ARG) and IM Eytan Rozen (ISR) en route his maiden IM-norm.
