Aronyak Ghosh dominates 17th KIIT International Chess Festival Blitz Rating Open 2026
GM Aronyak Ghosh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 17th KIIT International Chess Festival Blitz Rating Open 2026.
10-year-old Aarit Kapil impresses
India’s 95th GM and the reigning National Rapid 2026 champion, Aronyak Ghosh made a blazing start by winning eight games in-a-row. Six players – FM Aarit Kapil, GM Diptayan Ghosh, GM Laxman R R, GM Manik Mikulas (SVK), IM Guy Levin (ISR) and IM Ratnakaran K were trailing by a full point at 7/8 each. Aronyak drew against Guy to become a clear champion. FM Raem Sherman (ISR) lost to Aarit and the latter finished second. Ratnakaran suffered defeate against Diptayan who claimed third place.
FM Ram Prakash scored an impressive 7.5/9 to finish fourth. 14-year-old Atiksh Thakur is the sole untitled player to make a top ten finish. He scored 7.5/9 to finish eighth.
The total prize fund of the entire festival was ₹13100000, ₹400000 in Category D Blitz Rating Open. The top three prizes were ₹35000, ₹25000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each.
A total of 394 players including six GMs and 15 IMs took part from 13 countries across the world. The one-day nine-round Bitz Rating Open tournament was organized by and at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology deemed to be University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha on 24th May 2026. The time control of the tournament was 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment.
