Baibhab Singh best at 17th KIIT International Chess Festival Category C Below 1700 Rating 2026
Baibhab Singh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 17th KIIT International Chess Festival Category C Below 1700 Rating 2026.
Baibhab’s first rating tournament triumph
Prajwal V P and Baibhab Singh were coleaders at 7.5/8 each, heading into the final round. Baibhab defeated his coleader, Prajwal to become a clear champion. Yash Singh won against Madhav S Nair to secure second place 8/9. Rajesh Kumar Nayak lost to CM Ajith M P and the latter finished third.
The total prize fund of the entire festival was ₹13100000, ₹3600000 in Category C (<1700). The top three prizes were ₹450000, ₹350000 and ₹250000 along with a trophy each.



A total of 1075 players took part from various parts of India, one from Cyprus and five from Nepal. The four-day nine-round Rating Category C (<1700) tournament was organized by and at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology deemed to be University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha from 27th to 30th May 2026. The time control of the tournament was 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
