Shankar Ramakrishnan scored sole 7.5/9 to become clear champion at 6th CFPD National Chess Championship 2026.
Shankar’s first rating tournament triumph of his career
Shankar Ramakrishnan (TN) was the sole leader 7/8, going into the last round. CM Samarth J Rao (Postal) and Pamarthi Audietya Aazadh (TEL) were trailing by a half point at 6.5/8 each. Shankar drew against Pamarthi to become a clear champion, Pamarthi was placed second. Samarth lost to Ashutosh Singh (MP) and the former finished third overall.
The total prize fund was ₹230000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹12000 along with a trophy and a medal each.
A total of 82 players took part from various states across the country. The four-day nine-round Rating tournament for Specially Abled Players was organized by Chess Federation of Physically Disabled at Indore Public School in Indore, Madhya Pradesh from 27th to 30th May 2026. The time control of the tournament was 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
