Viani Antonio Dcunha victorious at 34th RCC STS Rapid Rating Open 2026

IM Viani Antonio Dcunha, IM Goutham Krishna H and IM Harsh Suresh scored 9/10 each at 34th RCC STS International Rated Rapid Cup 2026. Viani won the tournament on tie-breaks, Goutham and Harsh were placed second and third respectively. Only Viani remained undefeated among them. The total prize fund of the festival was ₹1400001, ₹200000 in the Rapid event. The top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹25000 and ₹12500 along with a trophy each.

Viani’s first tournament triumph of the year

IM Viani Antonio Dcunha was the sole leader 8.5/9, going into the last round. GM Laxman R R, IM Sathvik Adiga, IM Goutham Krishna H, IM Harsh Suresh and Sai Abhinav Kuchibhotla were trailing by a half point at 8/9 each. Viani drew against Laxman to become the champion. Goutham defeated Sai Abhinav to secure second place. Sathvik lost to Harsh and the latter finished third.

A total of 582 players including a GM and 18 IMs took part from all over the country and two from the USA. The two-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Rao’s Chess Corner at St. Theresas School Bethany Institution, Bendur in Mangalore, Karnataka on 28th and 29th March 2026. The time control of the tournament was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
