Anna – Kateryna: 1-0
Anna Muzychuk (UKR, 2522) and Kateryna Lagno (2508) have played plenty of games against each other. At the Candidates, they played four games before. Anna won one and the remaining three ended in draws. This time, Anna made a nice positional sacrifice to get the initiative.

Position after 19…a5
20.Bxa5! bxa5 21.Nxa5+ Kc8 22.Nc6 does not get White anything immediately. However, it is not easy for Black to defend accurately. 22…Rxa1 23.Rxa1 Nb6 24.Qe3 Bd6 25.c4 Qh6 26.Qh3+ Qe6 27.Qe3 Qh6 28.d4 exd4? 29.Qxd4+- instead 28…Qxe3 29.fxe3 would have kept the game going for Black. 29…Kb7 30.c5 Ra8 31.cxd6 Qxd6 32.Rxa8 and it’s over.
