India’s 92nd GM Aaryan Varshney scored a perfect 9/9 to win 7th DD-DBCA Above 1600 Rating Tournament 2026. IM Utsab Chatterjee scored 8/9 to secure second place. Aaryan’s first rating tournament triumph after becoming a GM

The 92nd GM of India and eighth of Delhi made a perfect start by winning eight games in-a-row. IM Utsab Chatterjee was the only player trailing him by a full point at 7/8. Despite needing only a draw to become a clear champion, Aaryan went for the maximum against Shaswata Paul to win the tournament with 100% score 9/9. Utsab defeated Niladri Banerjee to secure second place. Aniket Das won against Arhashirsha Biswas to finish third.

A total of 120 players including a GM and an IM took part from various parts of the country. The six-day nine-round Above 1600 Rating tournament was organized by and at Dhanuka Dhunseri Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy in Kolkata, West Bengal from 20th to 25th March 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
