Siddharth Singh convincingly clinches 48th Barbera del Valles Open 2026, Daksh Jagesia third

14-year-old Siddharth Singh (USA) scored 7.5/9 to win 48th Barbera del Valles A 2026. GM Daniel Alsina Leal (ESP) scored 7/9 to secure second place. Daksh Jagesia scored 6.5/9 to finish third. They all remained undefeated.

Daksh Jagesia scores his maiden IM-norm, Rachishnu Datta second in Group B

16-year-old 41st seeded, Daksh Jagesia scored an unbeaten 6.5/9 to earn his maiden IM-norm. He defeated IM Robert Aloma Vidal (ESP), IM Victor Manuel Vehi Bach (ESP), drew against GM Miguel Munoz (PER), IM Jorge Samuel Bobadilla Viera (COL) and IM Gianmarco Leiva (PER) en route his first IM-norm. The teenager also managed to gain a whopping 188.8 Elo rating points.

Paras Dilip Bhoir also scored the same 6.5/9. He was placed fourth according to tie-breaks. CM Shrayan Majumder is the only other Indian to make a top ten finish. He scored 5.5/9 to claim tenth position.

Pau Bru Montoya (ESP) scored 7.5/9 to win Group B (<2100). Rachishnu Datta, CM Carlos Fernandez Madrid (ESP), Carlos Guixa Somoza (ESP) and Devansh Singh scored 7/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks.

The total participation in this edition was 158 players, 47 in Group A, 101 in Group B and 10 in Blitz Round-Robin.

The top three prizes in Group A were 1200, 800 and 700 each. The top three prizes in Group B were 400, 300 and 250 each.

The nine-day nine-round Rating tournament was organized by Marina Ponsa Alcubierre at Torre d’En Gorgs, 40 in Barberà del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain from 4th to 12th July 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
