Tomas Laurusas convincingly clinches 90th ØBRO & CXU International 2026, Jakob, Deep and Kush share second place
GM Tomas Laurusas scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win 90th ØBRO & CXU International 2026. IM Jakob Leon Pajeken, GM Deep Sengupta and FM Kush Bhagat scored 6.5/9 each. They shared second place.
Kush Bhagat scores his final IM-norm and becomes India’s latest International Master
GM Tomas Laurusas (LTU) is the clear champion 7/9. IM Jakob Leon Pajeken (GER), GM Deep Sengupta and FM Kush Bhagat scored 6.5/9 each to share second place. Kush scored his final IM-norm, became India’s latest International Master and remained undefeated. He got a published rating of 2423 in August 2025 FIDE Rating list.
The first prize was DKK 7500 / €1000.

FM Kush Bhagat (2352) offered his exchange to gain an initiative on the kingside 21.Bxf5! His opponent, IM Jakob Leon Pajeken (GER, 2475) accepted the tempting offer 21…Bxd1 22.Rxd1 Bxe1 23.Rxe1 Nf8 24.Rf1 e4 25.Be6+! Black had to take it, otherwise f5 solidifies the bishop 25…Nxe6 26.dxe6 d5 27.f5 and White won the game in eight more moves.
IM Kush Bhagat scored an unbeaten 6.5/9, earned his final IM-norm, finished with a shared second place and increased his Elo rating by 22.1 points

Total 50 players including five GMs, six IMs, a WGM and two WIMs took part from 13 countries across the world. The seven-day nine round Swiss League Rating tournament was organized by Skakforeningen ØBRO Chess Club and sponsor, Claus Mikkelsen of the company CXU at Skakforeningen ØBRO Chess Club in Copenhagen, Denmark from 20th to 26th July 2026. The time control of the tournament was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 15 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
