Keymer – Praggnanandhaa: 1-0

Vincent Keymer (GER, 2767) and R Praggnanandhaa (2750) are quite well versed with each other. They have plenty of games, 13 Classical rated games to be exact since 2014. Praggnanandhaa has won five, Keymer three and the remaining five ended in draws.

Position after 37…Na3??

Praggnanandhaa decided to focus on the queenside 37…Na3?? However, his lack of harmony between the pieces got exposed very quickly. 38.Ng3 Nd7 39.Qg4 Qc2 40.Qf4+- f6 41.exf6 Nxf6 42.Nxe6 Qxb3 43.h6 White’s attack on the kingside turned out to be quite deadly, resulting in White checkmating with two knights, almost a Smothered Mate.
