Sethuraman wins 9th Isla de La Palma Open 2026
GM Sethuraman S P and GM Eduardo Iturrizaga Bonelli scored an unbeaten 8/10 each at 9th Isla de La Palma Open 2026. Sethuraman won the tournament on tie-breaks, Eduardo second.
Sethuraman’s first rating tournament triumph of the year
GM Eduardo Iturrizaga Bonelli (ESP) and GM Sethuraman S P were the coleaders at 7.5/9 each, heading into the last round. Sethuraman drew against GM Jorge Roberto Elias Reyes (CUB) to become the champion, Jorge finished third. Eduardo shared the point with IM Roberto Carlos Gomez Ledo (CUB) to secure second place.
The total prize fund was €15550. The top three prizes were €2500, €1700 and €1100 with a trophy each.

A total of 145 players including 11 GMs, 16 IMs and a WGM took part from 14 countries across the world. The eight-day ten-round Rating tournament was organized by Centro Insular de Ajedrez de la Palma and Federacion Canaria de Ajedrez at Pabellon Deportivo Roberto Estrello, Santa Cruz de La Palma in Canary Islands, Spain from 7th to 14th August 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
