Aaryan Varshney dominates 2nd Siliguri SCGC Rating Open 2026

GM Aaryan Varshney scored an unbeaten 9/10 to win 2nd Siliguri SCGC Rating Open 2026.

Aaryan’s seventh overall, fifth rating tournament triumph of the year

The top seed of the event, 92nd GM of India, Aaryan Varshney, was the sole leader 8.5/9, going into the last round. CM Kritan Boggarapu was the sole pursuer at 8.5/10. Bhoopnath drew against Aaryan and the latter became a clear champion. Kritan lost to Parambrata Sarkar and the latter finished second with a score of 8.5/10. Aritrya Pal defeated CM Purushottam Silwal (NEP) to finish third scoring 8/10.

The total prize fund was ₹450000. The top three prizes were ₹80000, ₹60000 and ₹40000 with a trophy each.

A total of 344 players including a GM and an IM took part from various parts of the country, one from Cyprus, England and Scotland each, and nine from Nepal. The six-day ten-round Rating Open tournament was organized by Siliguri Chess Guardians’ Club at Silpanchal Bhawan in Siliguri, West Bengal from 11th to 16th August 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
