Abhimanyu Puranik dominates 3rd JK’s ECA Rapid Rating Open 2026
GM Abhimanyu Puranik scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 3rd JK’s ECA Rapid Rating Open 2026. GM Karthikeyan P, FM Vaibhav Jayant Raut and CM Shlok Sharnarthi scored 8/9 each. They secured second, third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹400000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹50000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each.
Abhimanyu’s fourth rating tournament triumph of the year
IM Akshay Borgaonkar, the reigning National Blitz 2026 champion – GM Abhimanyu Puranik and IM Neelah Saha were the three leaders at 7.5/8 each, heading into the final round. Neelash lost to Abhimanyu and the latter became the champion. Akshay suffered defeat against GM Karthikeyan P who finished second. FM Vaibhav Jayant Raut defeated Keval Nirgun to claim third place.

A total of 385 players including three GMs, eight IMs and two WIMs took part from various parts of the country, one from Germany and Wales each, and two from the USA. The one-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by JK’s Excellence Chess Academy at Gulmohar Banquets, Abhiruchi Mall in Pune, Maharashtra on 19th April 2026. The time control of the tournament was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
