Akio Hayakawa wins 26th Sant Marti Group B 2026, Dhanashree Rathi second
Akio Hayakawa scored 8/9 to win 26th Sant Marti Group B (<1950) 2026. Dhanashree Rathi also scored the same. She was placed second on tie-breaks.
Paras Dilip Bhoir scores his maiden IM-norm
Akio Hayakawa (JPN) and Dhanashree Rathi scored 8/9 each in Group B (<1950). Akio won the tournament on tie-breaks, Dhanashree was placed second. Dhanashree also remained undefeated. Benny Todts (BEL) scored sole 7.5/9 to finish third. Dhanashree was the sole female and Indian to make a top ten finish in her group.
GM Johan-Sebastian Christiansen (NOR) won Group A (≥1950) scoring an unbeaten 8/9. GM Brandon Jacobson (USA), IM Alex Villa Tornero (ESP) and GM Hipolito Asis Gargatagli (ESP) scored 7/9. They were placed second, third and fourth respectively according to tie-breaks.
Paras Dilip Bhoir scored an impressive 6.5/9 to finish fifth. He is the highest non-GM/IM finisher of the event. His performance earned him an IM-norm and he increased his Elo rating by 102.22 points. His present rating is now 2411 in the August FIDE Rating list. It means Paras just needs to fulfill the norm requirements to become India’s next International Master.
Apart from Paras, CM Samuel Stephen Noble S was the only other Indian to make a top ten finish in Group A. He scored an impressive 6.5/9 to be placed eighth according to tie-breaks. The 12-year-old gained 172.52 Elo rating points from this event and in total he added a staggering 343.52 points in the month of July 2026. His rating in August 2026 FIDE Rating list is 2355.
The total participation in this edition was 368 players, 117 in Group A, 229 in Group B and 122 in Blitz Round-Robin.
The total prize fund was €9030. The top three prizes in Group A were €1500, €1200 and €900 along with a trophy each. The top three prizes in Group B were €550, €400 and €250 with a trophy each.

The nine-day nine-round Rating tournament was organized by C E Sant Marti at Centre Civic Sant Marti in Barcelona, Spain from 13th to 21st July 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
