Anustoop Biswas and Anuj Shrivatri are 3rd Maharathi Rapid and Blitz Rating Open 2026 champions

Anustoop Biswas, IM Aradhya Garg, Dhrupad Kashyap, IM Soham Kamotra, IM Kushagra Mohan, Samar Dayal (ENG) and IM Anuj Shrivatri scored 8/9 each at 3rd Maharathi Rapid Rating Open 2026. Anustoop became champion on tie-breaks. The remaining six secured second to seventh place respectively according to tie-breaks. Anuj and IM Namitbir Singh Walia scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 each in Blitz. Anuj became champion, Namitbir second. Aradhya, FM Rosh Jain and FM Aarav Sinha scored 8/9. They were placed third, fourth and fifth respectively. The total prize fund was ₹1000000, ₹700000 in Rapid and ₹300000 in Blitz. The top three prizes in Rapid were ₹51000, ₹35000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each, for Blitz they were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹11000 along with a trophy each.

Rapid: Top seven score 8/9

IM Aradhya Garg, Anustoop Biswas and IM Soham Kamotra were the leaders at 7.5/8 each, heading into the last round. Anustoop drew against Soham to become the champion. Namitbir shared the point against Aradhya and the latter secured second place. Dhrupad Kashyap defeated FM Rosh Jain to finish third.

Anustoop Biswas scored an unbeaten 8/9, won the tournament on tie-breaks and gained 24.6 Elo rating points

Blitz: Top two score an unbeaten 8.5/9

IM Anuj Shrivatri made a perfect start by winning eight games in-a-row. FM Rosh Jain and IM Namitbir Singh Walia were trailing by a half point at 7.5/8 each. Rosh drew against Anuj and the latter became champion. FM Ojasva Singh lost to IM Namitbir Singh Walia and the latter secured second place. Garv Rai suffered defeat against IM Aradhya Garg who finished third.

IM Anuj Shrivatri scored an unbeaten 8.5/9, won the tournament on tie-breaks and increased his Elo rating by 16.4 points

A total of 723 players including six IMs took part from various parts of the country, two from Canada, three from England, one from Ghana, and two from the USA. The two-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Maharathi Chess Academy at Thyagraj Stadium, INA in New Delhi on 21st and 22nd March 2026. The time control of the tournament was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment.

A total of 649 players including six IMs took part from various parts of the country, three from England, and two from the USA.
