India’s 95th GM Aronyak Ghosh scored an unbeaten 10/11 to win Fr. P C Mathew Memorial Rapid Rating 2026.
Aronyak’s seventh overall, fifth rating tournament triumph of the year
GM Aronyak Ghosh and Ujan Chanda were coleaders 9/10 each, heading into the final round. Aronyak defeated FM Bivor Adak to become a clear champion. Ujan drew against IM Souhardo Basak to secure second place, Souhardo was third.
Aronyak is currently at an 105 game unbeaten streak since January this year, including – 23 Classical, 31 Rapid, 28 Blitz rated and 13 non-rated rapid games.
The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹18000 along with a huge wooden chess set each.

A total 583 players including two GMs and two IMs participated from various school, college and universities across the country. The three-day eleven-round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by St. Xavier’s College Calcutta Alumni Association at St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata, West Bengal from 16th to 18th May 2026. The time control was 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment.
