FM Bivor Adak scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win North 24 Parganas District Rapid Rating Open 2026. Sanjib Mali scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. WCM Maitreyi Mondal and Debayan Ray scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third and fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹10000 + trophy, ₹6000 + trophy and ₹4000 each.

Bivor’s first rating tournament triumph of the year

It is not every day a district championship is a FIDE-rated event. This was one of the rare events not only in West Bengal but also in the entire country. Entry fee was only ₹900 and the total prize fund offered was ₹100000 including 29 trophies.

FM Bivor Adak was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the final round. Sanjib Mali and Sayantan Dey were the only two players trailing by a half point at 7/8 each. Sayantan lost to Bivor and the latter became a clear champion. Paramarth Mitra suffered defeat against Sanjib who secured second place. WCM Maitreyi Mondal defeated Sourasis Saha to finish third.

A total of 184 players took part from various parts North 24 Parganas District. The two-day nine-round Rapid Rating District Championship was organized by North 24 Parganas District Chess Association at JIS University, Agarpara in West Bengal on 4th and 5th April 2026. The time control of the tournament was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
