Boris Savchenko clear first at 17th KIIT International Chess Festival 2026, Aronyak Ghosh third
GM Boris Savchenko scored an unbeaten 8.5/10 to win 17th KIIT International Chess Festival Category A Above 1900 Rating 2026.
GMs claim top six, Madhvendra Pratap Sharma impresses
GM Aleksej Aleksandrov, GM Aronyak Ghosh, GM Mayank Chakraborty and GM Duc Hoa Nguyen (VIE) scored 8/10 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. Aronyak won the Blitz Rating Open on 24th May. That will be mentioned in detail in a separate report.
The total prize fund of the entire festival was ₹13100000, ₹5100000 in Category A (>1900). The top three prizes were ₹750000, ₹600000 and ₹400000 along with a trophy each.



12-year-old profusely talented, FM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma scored an impressive 7.5/10 to finish eighth. He is the only non GM/IM and the youngest finisher among top ten. Despite starting the event with a loss, he scored 7.5 points in his next nine games to make an impressive finish.

A total of 461 players including19 GMs, 38 IMs, a WGM and three WIMs took part from 17 countries across the world. The eight-day ten-round Rating Open A (>1900) tournament was organized by and at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology deemed to be University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha from 23rd to 30th May 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
