FIDE Candidates 2026 R2: A calm day

All four games in FIDE Candidates 2026 Round 2 ended in draws. R Praggnanandhaa drew his game against Wei Yi (CHN). Praggnanandhaa, Javokhir Sindarov (UZB) and Fabiano Caruana (USA) are at 1.5/2 each. Praggnanandhaa will face Sindarov in the third round.

Four draws

After an exciting start in the first round, the second one witnessed all four draws.

Wei – Praggnanandhaa: 0.5-0.5

Wei Yi (CHN, 2754) and R Praggnanandhaa (2741) have played three Classical rated games against each other. Praggnanandhaa had the white pieces in all of them and the result was a draw. Their fourth battle also had the same result and this was the first time, Wei got white against Praggnanandhaa in a Classical rated game.

FIDE Candidates Open and Women will take place from 29th March to 15th April. Tie-breaks, if needed, will be played on 16th April. Rest days are on 2nd, 6th, 10th and 13th April 2026.

Prize fund

The total prize fund is €700000. The top three prizes are €70000, €45000 and €25000. In addition, each player gets €5000 for every half point scored.
