Haowen Xue wins 54th World Open 2026 via Playoff, Prraneeth Vuppala shares first place
GM Prraneeth Vuppala scored 7.5/9 to share first place with GM Haowen Xue and IM Evan Park at 54th World Open 2026.

GM Haowen Xue (CHN), GM Prraneeth Vuppala and IM Evan Park (USA) scored 7.5/9 each. As per tournament regulations, the top two – Hawowen and Evan played an Armageddon, Haowen won that game with the white pieces. He became the champion and won bonus US$ 1000. The top three prize winners shared the first prize among them. They won US$ 11666.67 each. Prraneeth won ≈र1121516.99. Last year, GM Bharath Subramaniyam H was a clear champion at this event. For two consecutive years, an Indian has finished at the top here.
The total prize fund was US$ 208000. The top three prizes were $20000, $10000 and $5000 each.

A total of 229 players including 15 GMs, 15 IMs, a WGM and five WIMs took part from various parts of USA and all over the world. The five-day nine-round Rating tournament was organized by Continental Chess Association at The Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC, USA from 1st to 5th July 2026. The time control of the tournament was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes + 30 seconds delayed.
