Igor Glek wins Kufstein Open 2026, Anwesh Upadhyaya second
GM Igor Glek and Dr. IM Anwesh Upadhyaya scored an unbeaten 4.5/5 each at Kufsteiner Schach Open (>1600) 2026. Schachklub Kufstein (Kufstein Chess Club) completed 100 years.
Anwesh’s first podium finish of the year
GM Igor Glek (BEL) and Dr. IM Anwesh Upadhayaya scored 4.5/5 each. Igor finished first on tie-breaks, Anwesh second. FM Lukas Stoettner (GER) claimed third place scoring 4/5. This is Anwesh’s third full tournament (excluding leagues) participation of the year and he made a podium finish which is certainly impressive.
The top three prizes were €700, €500 and €400 with a trophy each.

A total of 72 players including a GM, an IM and a WIM took part from six countries across the world. The three-day five-round Rating A (>1600) tournament was organized by Schachklub Kufstein at Neue Mittelschule Kufstein Fischergries in Kufstein, Austria from 31st July to 2nd August 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
