Commonwealth 2026: Mitrabha Guha clinches Gold, Bronze for Srihari L R
GM Mitrabha Guha scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to clinch Gold at Commonwealth Chess Championship 2026.
India claims 92 medals
India has won a total of 92 medals – 35 Gold, 32 Silver and 25 Bronze. Out of them, 30 were in Classical, 29 in Rapid and 33 Iin Blitz. CM Tamizh Amudhan S, WCM Nakshatra Gumudavelly, WFM Saranya Devi Narahari and CM FT LSI Joseph Ebenezer won three Gold, one in each of the three formats in their respectie categories. GM Iniyan Pa, IM Ethan Vaz, Pritika Nandi, Shaunak Badole, Mysha Perwez and FM Md. Reyan have won two Gold each.
The total cash prize fund was US$ 18000. The top three prizes were US$ 2000, 1500 and 1000 each. For Rapid, the top three prizes were LKR 100000, 60000 and 40000 each. For Blitz they were, LKR 75000, 50000 and 25000 each.
Classical: Open – Gold and Bronze
GM Mitrabha Guha (2516) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to clinch Gold in the Open. This is his second Gold at Commonwealth. Previously he won Gold in the inaugural Rapid event in 2024. IM Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage (SRI, 2429) scored 7/9 to secure Silver. GM Srihari L R (2452) claimed Bronze scoring 6.5/9.

Women: Gold
WGM Mary Ann Gomes (2258) scored 6/9 to clinch Gold in the Women’s category. This is her second Gold since 2024.

Under-8 Girls: Gold and Silver
Pritika Nandi (1548) scored a perfect 9/9 to clinch Gold in Under-8 Girls. Shreyanshi Jain secured Silver scoring 7/9. Himandi Sehansa De Silva Rajaratne (SRI, 1444) scored 7/9 to get Bronze. Pritika defeated both Shreyanshi and Himandi in Round 4 and 6 respectively.

Under-8 Open: Bronze
Y M Dihela Thevin Wijesinghe (SRI, 1638) scored an unbeaten 8/9 to clinch Gold in Under-8 Open Classical. R P Himaru Vihas Rathnaweera (SRI, 1474) scored 7/9 to secure Silver. Ishaan Agnihotri (1508) got Bronze scoring 6.5/9.

Under-10 Girls: Gold and Bronze
WCM Nakshatra Gumudavelly (1860) scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to clinch in Under-10 Girls Classical. W Yurenle Angela (SRI, 1650) scored 7.5/9 to secure Silver. A Anointah (1591) and Tharshan Kajishana (SRI, 1561) scored 6.5/9 each. Anointah earned Bronze on tie-breaks. Nakshatra’s sole draw was against the eventual runner-up, Yurenle in Round 5.

Under-10 Open: Gold and Silver
CM Tamizh Amudhan S (1902) and CM Sattwik Swain (2002) scored 8.5/9 each in Under-10 Open Classical. They won Gold and Silver medals each respectively according to tie-breaks. The fifth round battle between them ended in a draw. They both finished 1.5 points ahead of the rest.

Under-12 Girls: Gold, Silver and Bronze
Indian kids made a clean sweep in Under-12 Girls section. The top five finishers were all Indians. Manya Abhishek Drolia (1707), and WCM Pooja Shree R (1909) scored 8/9 each. They won Gold and Silver medals respectively according to tie-breaks. Arin A Meha (1771) scored 7/9 to claim Bronze. Arin handed Manya her sole defeat of the event in Round 4. Pooja suffered her sole loss against the eventual winner, Manya in Round 7.

Under-14 Girls: Gold and Bronze
Mysha Perwez (1868) scored 7.5/9 to win Gold in Under-14 Girls Classical. Despite starting with a loss, Mysha made a strong comeback and finished clear first. WFM Sethumlee Devhara Palliyage (SRI, 1908) scored 7/9 to secure Silver. Divyasree Kollipara (1891) scored sole 6.5/9 to earn Bronze.

The top seed, Shaunak Badole (2240) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to clinch Gold in Under-14 Open Classical. Rishabh Kumar (1956) and Adhiraj Mitra (2147) scored 7/9 each. They received Silver and Bronze medals respectively according to tie-breaks.

Under-16 Girls: Gold and Silver
WCM Akshaya Sathi (1957) scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to clinch Gold in Under-16 Girls Classical. WCM Shanmathi Sree S (2023) scored 8/9 to secure Silver. M A D D D Munasinghe (SRI, 1853) scored sole 6.5/9 to fetch Bronze.

IM Goutham Krishna H (2433) scored an unbeaten 8/9 to clinch Gold in Under-16 Open Classical. Abheek Bhatt (2198) scored 7/9 to secure Silver. He also remained undefeated.

Under-18 Girls: Gold and Silver
WFM Saranya Devi Narahari (2010) scored a perfect 7/7 to clinch Gold in Under-18 Girls Classical. She finished a whopping two points ahead of the rest and won the event with a round to spare. WCM Ananya Raman (1969) scored 5/7 to secure Silver. H Sandithi Kusalya Alwis (SRI, 1971) scored 4.5/7 to get Bronze. Saranya defeated both Ananya and Sandithi in Round 3 and 4 respectively.

Under-18 Open: Silver and Bronze
FM Siva Kumar Nirish Kumar (MAS, 2185) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to clinch Gold in Under-18 Open Classical. Saksham Wadhwa (2174) scored sole 7/9 to secure Silver. He also remained undefeated. FM Md. Reyan (2184) scored 6.5/9 to earn Bronze.

Under-20 Open: Silver
FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid (BAN, 2316) scored an impressive 7/9 to secure overall second in the Open and Gold in Under-20 Open. IM Ethan Vaz (2521) scored 7/9 to win Silver. FM Dishal Nimsara Weerasekara (SRI, 2077)

Under-20 Girls: Silver and Bronze
WFM Sreekarthika Velmurugan (SGP, 2151), WCM Ananya Raman (1969) and WFM Marium Fatima (1970) scored 5.5/9 each. Sreekarthika edged past the other two on tie-breaks to secure Gold in Under-20 Girls Classical. Ananya and Marium received Silver and Bronze respectively.

Senior Open (Above 60): Gold
CM FT LSI Joseph Ebenezer (1849) scored 4.5/9 to clinch Gold in the Senior Open (Above 60) category. P K Chandrasiri (SRI, 1531) and Bruno Barbach (MRI, 1624) scored 3/9 each. They secured Silver and Bronze medals respectively.

GM Iniyan Pa (2452) scored an unbeatn 6.5/7 to win Gold in Rapid Open. GM Srihari L R (2389) scored 6/7 to secure Silver. He also remained undefeated. The defending champion, GM Mitrabha Guha (2499) scored 5.5/7 to clinch Bronze.

Under-8 Open: Gold
Evan Antonio Telles (1577) scored a perfect 7/7 to clinch Gold in Under-8 Open Rapid.

Under-8 Girls: Silver
Uyanahewage Binadi (SRI) and Pritika Nandi (1496) scored 6/7 each. Uyanahewage won Gold on tie-breaks, Pritika Silver.

Under-10 Open: Gold, Silver and Bronze
CM Tamizh Amudhan S (1844) scored 6/7 to win Gold in Under-10 Open Rapid. Kavish Palaniappan K (1711) and CM Sattwik Swain (1723) scored 5.5/7 each. They secured Silver and Bronze medals each respectively.

WCM Nakshatra Gumudavelly (1708) scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to clinch Gold in Under-10 Girls Rapid. She finished a full point ahead of the rest.

Under-12 Open: Silver
CM A P Chenitha Sihas Dinsara Karunasena (SRI, 1905) and Oishik Mondal (1818) scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 each. Chenitha won Gold due to better tie-breaks, Oishik had to settle for Silver. They both finished 1.5 points ahead of the rest.

Under-12 Girls: Gold, Silver and Bronze
Before dominating the Classical event, the Indian kids made a clean sweep in Under-12 Girls Rapid event. Arin A Meha (1640) scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to clinch Gold. WCM Pooja Shree R (1914) scored 6/7 to secure Silver. Her sole loss was against the eventual Gold medalist, Arin in Round 5. Manya Abhishek Drolia (1543) scored sole 5.5/7 to claim Bronze.

Under-14 Open: Gold, Silver and Rapid
Shaunak Badole (2002) scored a perfect 7/7 to clinch Gold in Under-14 Open Rapid. He finished a staggering two points ahead of the rest which means he won the Gold with a round to spare. Five players scored 5/5 each. Among them, Adhiraj Mitra (1983) and Hari Vardan Satheeskumar (2081) won Silver and Bronze medals respectively according to tie-breaks.

Under-14 Girls: Gold and Silver
The top seed, Mysha Perwez (1931) scored a perfect 7/7 to clinch Gold. She finished a whopping two ponts ahead of the rest which means she won Gold with a round to spare. Three players scored 5/7 each. Out of them, Divyasree Kollipara (1554) and K G Dewli Abinadi Chanseya (SRI, 1543) secured Silver and Bronze medals respectively.

Chenitha Mithvidu Ovitigala (SRI, 1886) scored 6/7 to win Gold in Under-16 Open Rapid. Abheek Bhatt (1772) scored an unbeaten 5.5/7 to secure Silver.

Under-16 Girls: Silver and Bronze
B P Chanthuli Thanishka De Silva (SRI, 1766) and Theephigaa K P (1727) scored 5.5/7 each. Chanthuli won Gold due to better tie-break scores, Theephigaa had to settle for Silver. Theephigaa also remained undefeated. WCM Akshaya Sathi (1604) edged past two other girls on tie-breaks to earn Bronze with a score of 5/7.

Under-18 Open: Gold, Silver and Bronze
FM Md. Reyan (2147) scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to clinch Gold. The reigning National Under-17 Open 2026 champion, FM V S Nandish (2079) scored 6/7 to secure Silver. Saksham Wadhwa (2024) won Bronze scoring sole 5/7.

Under-18 Girls: Gold and Bronze
WFM Saranya Devi Narahari (1859) scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to clinch Gold in Under-18 Girls Rapid. H Sandithi Kusalya Alwis (SRI, 1758) scored 6/7 to secure Silver. She also remained undefeated. Aswinika Mani R (1733) scored 5/7 to win Bronze.

Under-20 Open: Gold
IM Ethan Vaz (2310) scored 5.5/7 to clinch Gold in Under-20 Open Rapid. FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid (BAN, 2376) also scored the same. He received Silver on tie-breaks. CM Kritan Boggarapu (SCO, 1906) got Bronze scoring 5/7.

Under-20 Girls: Bronze
WFM K M Dahamdi Sanudula (SRI, 1799), WIM Devindya Oshini Gunawardhana (SRI, 1985) and WFM Marium Fatima (1895) scored 4/7 each. They won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively according to tie-breaks.

CM FT LSI Joseph Ebenezer (1772) scored 4/7 to clinch Gold in Best Senior (Above 60) Rapid Open category. P K Chandrasiri (SRI, 1527) scored 2.5/7 to secure Silver. Chandra Sudarman S Pitigala (SRI, 1684) scored 2/7 to win Bronze.

Blitz Open: Gold, Silver and Bronze
GM Iniyan Pa (2432) and GM S Rohith Krishna (2388) scored 6.5/7 each. Iniyan won Gold on tie-breaks, Rohith Silver. GM Srihari L R (2318) scored 5.5/7 to claim Bronze.
