Janhavi Soneji clear first at Chess Masters Season 4 Rating Open 2026
Janhavi Soneji scored an unbeaten 7/8 to win All India Chess Masters Season 4 Rating Open 2026.
Janhavi’s first open rating tournament triumph of her career
Janhavi Soneji was the sole leader at 6.5/7, heading into the final round. Venkat Reyaansh, Mayuresh Parkar and Rajveer Pinkesh Nahar were trailing by a half point at 6/7 each. Janhavi drew against Rajveer to become a clear champion, Rajveer finished second. Gaurang Bhandari defeated Kush Ajay Agarwal to claim third place.
It is not everyday that a female player win an open tournament. Janhavi winning this tournament while remaining undefeated and not needing tie-breaks is an incredible feat.
The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy and medal each.

Janhavi Soneji scored an unbeaten 7/9, finished a half point ahead of the rest and gained 27.2 Elo rating points
A total of 157 players took part from various parts of the country and one from England. The six-day nine-round Rating Open tournament was organized by and at Mumbai Chess Centre in Mumbai, Maharashtra from 23rd to 28th May 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
