Lalit Ranjan Sahu clear first at 5th IS Rating Open 2026
15-year-old Lalit Ranjan Sahu scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 5th IS Rating Open 2026. Six players – Sparsh Khandelwal, CM Sattwik Swain, Arohan Dey, Naveen K S, Abir Mitra and Suryapranjal Indrajeet S P scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to seventh place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹12500 along with a trophy each.
Lalit’s first tournament triumph of the year
The top seed of the tournament, Naveen K S was the sole leader 7.5/8, going into the last round. CM Sattwik Swain, Lalit Ranjan Sahu and Abir Mitra were trailing by a half point at 7/8 each. Naveen lost to Lalit and the latter became the champion. Shibhantak Saha suffered defeat Sparsh who secured second place. Abir drew against Sattwik and the latter finished third.

A total of 330 players took part from various parts of the country. The five-day nine-round Rating Open tournament was organized by IS Chess Centre at J N Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha from 26th to 30th March 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
