Mayukh Majumder becomes West Bengal State Rapid and Blitz Rating 2026 champion
13-year-old Mayukh Majumder became West Bengal State Rapid and Blitz 2026 champion. He scored 8/9 in Rapid and 8.5/9 in Blitz. Mayukh became champion in Rapid on tie-breaks, despite losing the last round game. In the Blitz, he dominated the field, remained undefeated and finished a half point ahead of the rest.
13-year-old sets a new record
Since the State Rapid and Blitz Championship started in the new format in less than a decade ago, no teenager untitled player has won both West Bengal State Rapid and Blitz Rating Championship in the same edition. Thus, 13-year-old Mayukh Majumder became the first to win West Bengal State Rapid and Blitz Rating Championship in 2026. This was also the biggest West Bengal State Rapid and Blitz Championship ever as 499 players took part in Rapid and 458 in Blitz, out of the 514 and 497 registered. The total prize fund in Rapid and Blitz Rating was ₹69500 and ₹28500 + trophies. The top three prizes in Rapid were ₹15000 + trophy, ₹10000 and ₹5000, for Blitz they were ₹7000 + trophy, ₹5000 and ₹4000 each.

Rapid: Top six score 8/9
Mayukh Majumder made a perfect start by winning eight games in-a-row. Nine players – Ujan Chanda, Agnivo Chakraborty, Srijon Saha, Anustoop Biswas, Soumma Chakraborty, Arpan Das, Laltu Chatterjee, Narendra Agarwal and Bedabrata Banerjee were trailing by a full point at 7/8 each. The top seed of the event, Anustoop defeated Mayukh in the final round, still the latter became champion due to better tie-break scores, Anustoop had to settle for fourth place. Ujan won against Agnivo to secure second place. Srijon scored a full point versus Narendra to finish third.

Blitz: Mayukh dominates
Mayukh Majumder once again made a blazing start by winning eight games in-a-row. Ambarish Sharma was the only player trailing him by a half point at 7.5/8. Ambarish drew against Mayukh in the final round, the former finished third and the latter first. Krishay Jain defeated Neelabhro Bandyopadhyay to secure second place.

The two-day nine-round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by North 24 Parganas District Chess Association at Subho Lagna Marriage Hall in Dumdum, West Bengal on 28th February and 1st March 2026. The time control of the tournament was 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment.
