Md. Imran wins Colonel Santhosh Babu Rapid Rating Open 2026
IM Md. Imran and IM Vignesh Advaith Vemula scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 each at Colonel Santhosh Babu Rapid Rating Open 2026. Imran won the tournament on tie-breaks, Vignesh was placed second.
Imran’s ninth rating tournament triumph of the year
Five players – IM Md. Imran, IM Vignesh Advaith Vemula, CM Divith Reddy Adulla, Sri Akhil Prasad and Vishwanath Prasad were the leaders at 7.5/8, going into the last round. Imran defeated Divith to become the champion. Vishwanath lost to Vignesh and the latter finished second. Sri Akhil lost to Chidvilash who claimed third place.
The tournament was organizeed in memory of Mahavir Chakra honored Late Colonel Santhosh Babu.
The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹25000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each.

A total of 712 players including three IMs took part from various parts of the country, one from Belgium and 13 from the USA. The two-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by LSK Chess Academy at Sapthapadi A/C Gardens in Hyderabad, Telangana on 11th and 12th July 2026. The time control of the tournament was 25 minutes + 10 seconds increment.
