Mitrabha Guha clear first at Festival Caissa Crown Rapid Rating Open 2026

GM Mitrabha Guha scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win Festival Caissa Crown Rapid Rating Open 2026. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Seven players scored 7.5/9 each. Out of them, GM Adhiban Baskaran and IM Mayank Chakraborty was placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹20000 and ₹18000 along with a trophy each. This was Mitrabha’s second overall, first rating touranment triumph in 2026.

Mitrabha’s second triumph of the year

This was the second event of the Festival Caissa Grand Prix series. The tournament was already a success due to an enormous participation of GMs, IMs, WGMs and WIMs – 44 in total. It is not everyday one get to see so many titled and top players of the country take part in a non-GM tournament. It might be difficult to top this series for the rest of year in any rating open tournaments in India.

The top seed of the event, GM Mitrabha Guha was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the last round. GM Adhiban Baskaran and IM Subhayan Kundu were trailing by a half point at 7/8 each. Adhiban drew against Mitrabha and the latter became a clear champion, the former second. IM Md. Imran lost to IM Mayank Chakraborty who claimed third place.

A total of 321 players including 10 GMs, 29 IMs, 2 WGMs and 3 WIMs took part from all over the country, two from England and one from USA. The one-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Innovators Chess Academy at Silicon City Academy of Secondary Education in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 24th January 2026. The time control of the tournament was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
