Divya Deshmukh defeated Humpy Koneru for the second time at Norway Chess Women 2026.

Bibisara scores an easy win against Jiner

Bibisara Assaubayeva mainted her sole lead 12.5/21, after scoring an easy win against Jiner Zhu. Divya Deshmukh defeated Humpy Koneru for the second time at this event. Divya moved to 10/21. Anna Muzychuk won her second match against Wenjun Ju to move to 9.5/21.

Humpy – Divya: 1-1.5

The FIDE Women’s World Cup 2025 winner, Divya Deshmukh (2500) brought an element of surprise when she opted for the Benko Gambit against the legend, Humpy Koneru (2535). Divya got a winning position in the endgame. However, she played the rook and same color bishop ending when she traded the rooks a bit too early. Divya capitalized on her opponent’s blunder in Armageddon to win the game and the match.

Bibisara – Jiner: 3-0

The reigning three-time World Blitz Women’s champion Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ, 2527) scored an easy win against Jiner Zhu (CHN, 2547) after the latter made a simple tactical error. Bibisara won both Classical games against Jiner at this event.

Wenjun- Anna: 1-1.5

The reigning five-time Women’s World Champion, Wenjun Ju (CHN, 2559) missed an opportunity in the endgame against Anna Muzychuk (UKR, 2522). Wenjun got her queen trapped in Armageddon. Thus, Anna won the game and the match.

Format

6 players will take part in the Tournament.

The Tournament is a double-round event with Armageddon.

The Tournament consists of 10 rounds.

Berger tables will be used for the pairings.

Default time is 15 minutes.

Time Control

Each player will have 120 minutes on the clock with an increment of 10 seconds starting from move 41. The time control for the Armageddon game: white has 10 minutes and black has 7 minutes with an increment for both players of 1 second per move, starting from move 41.

Draw by Mutual Agreement

Players are not allowed to agree to a draw until at least 30 moves have been made by each player. This rule does not apply to Armageddon games.

Armageddon

If the classical game is drawn, an Armageddon game will be played. It shall start within 20 minutes of the conclusion of the classical game. The player with White pieces will continue with White in Armageddon. If the Armageddon game is drawn, black will win.
