Oishik Mondal and Aryahi Bhattacharya are West Bengal State Under-11 Open and Girls 2026 Champions
Oishik Mondal (Howrah) scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win West Bengal State Under-11 Open Championship 2026. Aharnish Nanda (Purba Medinipur) scored sole 7/8 to secure second place. Aayan Gupta (Kolkata) edged past five more players on tie-breaks to be placed third with 6.5/8. Aryahi Bhattacharya (Paschim Bardhaman) became champion in the Girls event. Srijani Naskar (South 24 Parganas) and Eishita Lahiry (Kolkata) also scored 6.5/8 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks.
Oishik clinches for the second year in-a-row
Oishik Mondal was the sole leader 6.5/7, heading into the final round. Five players – Aharnish Nanda, Kian D Bose, Aaradhyo Guin, Reyansh Riwani and Navonil Das were trailing by a half point at 6/7 each. Aaradhyo lost to the FIDE World Cup Cadet Under-10 Open 2025 Silver medalist, Oishik and the latter became a clear champion. Navonil suffered defeat against Aharnish who was placed second. Aayan Gupta defeated Ankit Saha to finish third.
Unlike the Open event which was dominated by Oishik Mondal, the Girls event was much closely fought. It went down to the wire. Eishita Lahiry was the sole leader 6/7, going into the last round. Srijani Naskar, Aryahi Bhattacharya, Shruti Sarkar and Ayanshi Sengupta were in the fray at 5.5/7 each. Aryahi defeated the defending champion, Shruti to become the champion. Srijani won against Aahiri Pal to be placed second. Eishita drew against Ayanshi to finish third.
This event witnessed a record participation of 366 players – 283 in Open and 83 in Girls. It is the highest ever total participation for a West Bengal State Under-11 Chess Championship.
