Ondrej Svanda wins 40th Äskulap Open 2026, Himal Gusain second
IM Ondrej Svanda (GER) scored an unbeaten 6/7 to win 40th Äskulap Open 2026. Nine players scored 5.5/7 each. Out of them, IM Himal Gusain and FM Adam Gibala (POL) was placed second and third according to tie-breaks.. The first prize was €1200.
Himal’s second podium finish of the year
This is Himal Gusain’s second consecutive podium finish of 2026, after winning 45th National Team Open 2026 for RSPB A.

A total of 155 players including four GMs, six IMs and two WIMs took part from nine countries across the world. The four-day seven-round Rating tournament was organized by Schachverein Goerlitz 1990 e.V. – Thomas Liebs at Youth Center “Wartburg” in Görlitz, Germany from 1st to 4th April 2026. The time control of the tournament was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
