Dr. Prajwal P Shet scored a perfect 9/9 to win SSM Cup Rapid Rating Open 2026.
Prajwal’s second overall, first rating tournament triumph of the year
The top seed of the tournament, Dr. Prajwal P Shet made a perfect start by winning eight games in-a-row. Six players – Abhishek I Ganiger, CM Samarth J Rao, Nandakumar Viresh Sulikeri, Chiranth M D, Shrihari Venkatesh Deshpande and Rakhesh Gowda G C were trailing by a full point at 7/8 each. A draw would have sufficed for Prajwal to become a clear champion, still he went for the maximum. Prajwal defeated Venkatesh to become the champion with a perfect score 9/9. Abhishek won against Samarth to secure second place. Chiranth lost to Nandakumar and the latter finished third.
The total prize fund was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹10000, ₹7000 and ₹5000 along with a trophy each.

A total of 260 players including a GM and six IMs took part from all over India. The one-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Davanagere Chess Club at Bapuji Bank Samudaya Bhavana in Davanagere, Karnataka on 20th September 2026. The time control of the tournament was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
