Shankhadeep Maity scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 17th KIIT International Chess Festival Category B Below 1900 Rating 2026.

Shankhadeep’s first rating tournament triumph of his career.

Ten players scored 7.5/9 each. Among them, Samarth Jain and Satyam Sarbajit Mishra were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Shankhadeep made a perfect start by winning eight games in-a-row. Samarth, Satyam, Tejash Jain, Md. Tabsheer Alam and Adhirath T were trailing by a full point at 7/8 each. Shankhadeep drew against Tabsheer to become a clear champion. Samarth and Satyam split the point. Shankhadeep was kind enough to share all of his games from this event with us. The total prize fund in Category B (<1800) was ₹3600000. The top three prizes were ₹450000, ₹350000 and ₹250000 along with a trophy each.

A total of 688 players took part from various parts of India, one from Cyprus, six from Nepal, three from Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe each. The four-day nine-round Below 1900 Rating tournament was organized by and at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology deemed to be University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha from 23rd to 26th May 2026. The time control of the tournament was 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
