Vedant Nagarkatte convincingly clinches 1st Maverick Rapid Rating Open 2026

Vedant Nagarkatte scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Maverick Events presents 1st Maverick Rapid Rating Open 2026. FM Gaurang Bagwe, IM Srijit Paul and FM Jeet Jain scored 8/9 each. They secured second, third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each.

Vedant’s first rating tournament triumph of the year

FM Vedant Nagarkatte and IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh were the coleaders at 7.5/8 each, heading into the last round. FM Kshatriya Nitin Vekhande lost to Vedant and the latter became a clear champion. FM Gaurang Bagwe defeated Arnav Mahesh Koli to be placed second. Nubairshah lost to IM Srijit Paul who finished third. Sannidhi Ramakrishna Bhat was the sole female player to make a top ten finish. She scored 7.5/9 to claim eighth place.

The tournament was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Dr. Dimple Jain, Meghna Joshi – Founder of Maverick Events and Rahul Joshi, Tournament Director. The prize winners were felicitated by Dr. Dimple Jain.

FM Vedant Nagarkatte scored an unbeaten 8.5/9, finished a half point ahead of the rest and increased his Elo rating by 55.8 points

A total of 500 players including three IMs took part from various parts of the country, one from Netherlands and Zambia each. The one-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Maverick Events at New Horizon Scholars School, Kavesar in Thane West, Maharashtra on 19th April 2026. The time control of the tournament was 15 minutes + 3 seconds increment.
