Mayank Chakraborty prevails at Shri P R Dutta Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2026

GM Mayank Chakraborty, FM Aditya Varun Gampa, IM Kaustuv Kundu, IM Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi, Shaurya Chaudhary and Mayank Pal scored 8/9 each at Shri P R Dutta Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2026. Mayank won the tournament on to tie-breaks. The remaining five were placed second to sixth respectively. The total prize fund was ₹700000. The top three prizes were ₹51000, ₹31000 and ₹21000 along with a trophy each. This is the first rating tournament Mayank played after he became a GM last month and he became champion in it.

Mayank’s fourth rating tournament triumph of the year

FM Aditya Varun Gampa and the 94th GM of India, Mayank Chakraborty were the coleaders 7.5/8 each, heading into the last round. Ten players were trailing them by a half point at 7/8 each. Aditya drew against Mayank, the latter became the champion and the former second. IM Kaustuv Kundu defeated FM Harshit Pawar to finish third.

A total of 490 players including a GM and seven IMs took part from all over the country, one from England, Ireland and USA each. The two-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Matrix Chess Academy at Abhinav Global School in New Delhi on 11th and 12th March 2026. The time control of the tournament was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
