Ilamparthi impressive at Chairman Trophy 4th SRM Rapid Rating Open 2026
GM Ilamparthi A R scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Chairman Trophy 4th SRM Rapid Rating Open 2026.
Ilamparthi’s first rating tournament triumph of the year
The top seed of the tournament, GM Ilamparthi A R made a perfect start by winning eight games in-a-row. Seven players – IM Hari Madhavan N B, FM Siddhanth Poonja, Jayanth Venkatesh, Rahul Bharadwaj B, IM Manish Anto Cristiano F, Prajit Ravishankar and Raghuraman Gurubaran were trailing by a full point at 7/8 each. Ilamparthi drew against Hari to become a clear champion. Prajit lost to Siddhanth and the latter finished second. Rahul went down against Jayanth who claimed third place.
The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹25000 + trophy, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each.

A total of 432 players including two GMs and five IMs took part from various parts of India, two from France and the USA, one from Scotland and South Korea each. The one-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Golden Knights Chess Academy and Master Mind Chess Academy at SRM IST, Kattankulathur in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu on 12th July 2026. The time control of the tournament was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
