Subhayan Kundu triumphs at 50th Badalona Open 2026, Utsab Chatterjee third
IM Subhayan Kundu, Siddharth Singh and IM Utsab Chatterjee scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 each at 50th Ciutat de Badalona Open Group A (≥1950) 2026. Subhayan won the tournament on tie-breaks, Siddharth second and Utsab third.
Top three score 7.5/9, Six Indians in top ten; Shreyas Nikam second in Group B
IM Subhayan Kundu, Siddharth Singh (USA) and IM Utsab Chatterjee were the three leaders at 6.5/8 each, heading into the final round. Subhayan defeated Iliia Lunin Bohomolets (ESP) to become the champion. Siddharth won against CM Shrayan Majumder to finish second. IM Lluis Maria Perpinya Rofes (ESP) lost to Utsab who claimed third place.
Apart from Subhayan and Utsab, four more Indians made a top ten finish. Shaurya Chaudhary scored sole 6.5/9 to finish fourth. Ravi Krishna G and Shrayan scored 6/9 each to be placed sixth and seventh respectively. CM Amartya Saumitra Gupta was placed tenth scoring 5.5/9.
The total prize fund was €6000. The top three prizes in Group A were €1500, €800 and €600 with a trophy each. The top three prizes in Group B were €400, €200 and €120.

A total of 57 players including two GMs, six IMs and three WIMs took part from 13 countries across the world. The nine-day nine-round Group A (≥1950) Rating tournament was organized by Catalan Chess Federation at La Salut Civic Center in Badalona, Spain from 2nd to 10th August 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
