Praggnanandhaa returns to World no.8 after seven months, Deekshitha, Kalyani and Pratitee storm in Top 100

R Pragggnanandhaa returned to World no.8 for the first time in a FIDE Rating list since February 2026. Arjun Erigaisi retains his place at World no.8 in September list.

Two Indians in Top ten, 15 in Top 100

R Praggnanandhaa returned to World Top ten after his fantastic performance at Sinquefield Cup and Grand Chess Tour 2026 Finals.

Arjun Erigaisi remained at World no.9 for the third consecutive month as he did not play any rated game in August.

Vishy Anand stays World no.14 and Nihal Sarin World no.25 for the third month in-a-row.

The reigning World Champion D Gukesh did not play any rated game in August. Still, he dropped one place to World no.32.

The reigning World Junior 2025 champion, Pranav Venkatesh gained 6.9 Elo rating points at Turkish Super League 2026. Now he has a 2677 rating as he rmoved up by four places to World no.41.

Aravindh Chithambaram maintains his place at World no.42 with 2677, having no rated games played last month.

Pranesh M added only 0.8 Elo rating points by winning Kanizsa Open 2026. He maintains his place at World no.44 with 2674.

Aryan Chopra increased his Elo rating by 9 points to 2646 at FIDE World University Team Championship 2026. This is his new peak rating. He climbed 17 places to World no. 70.

Raunak Sadhwani added 5 Elo rating points by winning Scheldemond Open 2026. He moved up by eight places to World no.72.

Leon Luke Mendonca gained 2 Elo rating points at Turkish First League 2026. He climbed ten places to World no.85.

Abhimanyu Puranik did not play any rated game in August. He returned to Top 100 at World no.98.

Women: Six Indians 2400+, Eleven in Top 100, Deekshitha, Kalyani and Pratitee gain huge rating

There are now five Indians in top 25. They are – GM Humpy Koneru, World no.9, GM Divya Deshmukh, World no.13, GM R Vaishali, World no.16, WCM Deekshitha Modipalli, World no. 23 and GM Harika Dronavalli, World no.25 among women. Among them, Divya maintained her Elo rating by gaining 0.3 Elo rating points at the 6th Cairns Cup 2026. Deekshitha increased her Elo rating by a massive 297.16 points.

Harika did not play any rated game last month. She dropped four places to World no.25.

WIM Kalyani Sirin added 184.3 Elo rating points from two tournaments in Romania – Brasov and Arad GP 2026. Her rating is now 2401.

WFM Pratitee Bordoloi clinched Gold at Asian Junior Girls 2026, became a WIM and added 140.8 Elo rating points from two tournaments in August.

The reigning Asian Individual Women’s 2026 champion, IM Savitha Shri B gained 7.1 Elo rating points at 35th Kavala Open 2026 in Kavala, Greece.

WGM Rakshitta Ravi increased a total of 12.2 Elo rating points from First Saturday 2026 August GM and Olomouc Chess Summer 2026.
