Adamas University dominates East Zone Inter-University Women Chess Championship 2025-26

Adamas University scored a perfect 10/10 to clinch East Zone Inter-University Women Chess Championship 2025-26. University of Calcutta scored 8/10 to secure second place. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University, WB and Pandit Ravishankar University, Raipur scored 7/10 each. They secured third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks.

Five in-a-row

Adamas University has won this event for five consecutive editions. The top seed playing at their home field won four matches to gain sole lead 8/8, heading into the last round. Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya Durg, University of Calcutta, Jadavpur University and Banaras Hindu University were trailing at 6/8 each. Although a draw would have sufficed Adamas to become a clear champion, they went for the maximum and defeated Hemchand Yadav team 0-4 in the final round to become the champion with a 100% score 10/10. University of Calcutta won against Jadavpur University 3-1 to finish second. Manipur University lost to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University by 1-3 and the latter finished third.

Adamas University becomes five-times East Zone Inter-University Women’s Chess Champion

A total of 108 players including a WIM represented 22 team across the East Zone of India. The three-day five-round Swiss-League Team University Women tournament was organized by Department of Sports, Adamas University at Adamas University in West Bengal from 2nd to 4th March 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
