Aradhya Garg clear first at Shri Dhanpat Rai Sachdeva Memorial Rating Open 2026
IM Aradhya Garg scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win Shri Dhanpat Rai Sachdeva Rating Open 2026.
Aradhya’s second rating tournament triumph of the year
Five players – IM Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy, IM Aradhya Garg, GM Ido Gorshtein (ISR), CM Naitik R Mehta and IM Neelash Saha were the leaders at 7/8 each, heading into the final round. Aradhya defeated FM Rosh Jain to become a clear champion. Ajay drew against Neelash and they secured second and third place respectively.
The total prize fund was ₹1401000. The top three prizes were ₹200000, ₹150000 and ₹100000 along with a trophy each.

19.Bc5? created an opportunity for Black. IM Aradhya Garg (2407) seized his opportunity 19…f3!-+ 20.gxf3 Nf4 21.Qc2 Qg5 22.Bxd4 Nxd3+ 23.Kb1 dxc4 24.Qc3 Rxf3 and Black won the game a dozen moves later. This win ensured Aradhya become a clear champion.

A total of 363 players including a GM and six IMs took part from all over the country, one from Canada and Zimbabwe each, two from Israel. The five-day nine-round Rating Open tournament was organized by Rai Sahab Council for Sports and Education at Marina Dreams Banquets in New Delhi from 17th to 21st May 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
